> The lower National Assembly adopted the text by a vote of 130 to 21 in a lengthy session that started yesterday.
> The legislation, which also provides for a ban on mobile phones in high schools, would make France the second country to take such a step following Australia's ban for under-16s in December.

I wonder if this will eventually make its way to the EU Parliament? Seems like a popular initiative. What are other member nations doing?

Countries that have pushed the same laws include the Netherlands. Even though there were no enforcement nor penalties, as usual.

What's great here is that these bans aren't "flying blind" either:
* Australia will have a 2y independent review to assess whether the ban reduced online harms and how it affected children's wellbeing
* France is doing "on the ground" testing in schools - they'll monitor schools for changes in cyberbullying incidents and academic performance. They'll also do public health monitoring; looking for a decrease in "addictive behaviors" and emergency room visits related to self-harm
It honestly seems like a really great idea.

Other countries considering something simillar:
* Norway
* Denmark
* UK (from Online Safety Ban to a more broad-based ban)
Also public support in the Netherlands, Spain and Italy.
